Privacy policy

What this site collects, what third parties collect through it, and how to switch the tracking off. Effective August 24, 2026.

The short version

Nutrient Notes has no accounts, no logins, no comments and no newsletter. Nothing asks you for your name or email. What data exists is the aggregate traffic measurement and advertising data that Google Analytics and Google AdSense collect on nearly every ad- supported site, described in full below.

What this site collects directly

Nothing that identifies you. There is no contact form, no sign-up, and no database of readers. If you email a correction, that email sits in an ordinary mailbox and is used to answer you — it is not added to any list.

The search box submits your query as a URL parameter so the results page can render. Queries are not logged separately by this site, though they do appear in the analytics described next, as page addresses.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count pages viewed and to see which posts people actually read. It sets cookies and records an approximate location, device type, browser, referring site, and the pages visited. IP addresses are truncated by Google before storage. The data is read in aggregate; it does not identify individual readers, and it is not sold or passed to anyone.

You can block it with Google’s official opt-out add-on, with a content blocker, or by refusing cookies where a consent banner is shown.

Advertising and cookies

Pages carry Google AdSense units. To serve them, Google and its partners set cookies and similar identifiers in your browser.

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Its use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and may themselves set cookies. This site does not control those cookies and cannot read them.
  • Some of those partners may use device identifiers, approximate location, and browsing history to choose which ad to show and to measure whether it worked.

You can turn personalised advertising off at Google Ads Settings. You will still see ads; they simply stop being tailored to you. To opt out of personalisation across many networks at once, use aboutads.info or YourAdChoices. Blocking cookies in your browser settings works too, and costs you nothing on this site — no feature here depends on them.

If you are in the EU, UK, or California

Where consent is legally required before analytics and advertising cookies are set, those cookies are only set after you give it, and you can withdraw consent at any time through the same banner. Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you; because this site holds no reader records itself, such a request generally has to go to Google, which is the controller of the analytics and advertising data. Under the CCPA you have the right to know what is collected and to opt out of its sale or sharing — this site does not sell personal information.

Affiliate links

Some links are affiliate links, and clicking one can pass a referral identifier to the merchant so a commission can be credited. The merchant’s own privacy policy governs anything that happens after you land on their site. Which relationships exist, and why they do not decide what gets recommended, is set out on the disclosure page.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. No personal information is knowingly collected from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, write to the address below and it will be deleted.

Data retention

Analytics data is retained by Google for the period set in the property’s configuration and is then deleted automatically. Advertising identifiers expire on schedules Google sets, which are described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Changes

If this policy changes in substance, the effective date at the top moves and the change is described here. Continuing to read the site after that date means the revised policy applies.
